Bippity Boppity Boo (or Cinderella's pumpkin and The Robbins Reading Room)

The Reading Room was a hotbed of activity on Wednesday evening at 9:00pm. After the last patron left the library, Patsy Kraemer, Maryellen Loud, Julie Horvath, Mark Tezian and Brian Rose and I rolled up our sleeves and got to work. The moveable book stacks were rolled out of the Reading Room. Chairs came from the Reference Room. Tables were rearranged. Pink linen table cloths were draped over tables. Artwork was placed on easels arranged on top of magazine stacks and on the window shelves. Business related books were displayed on a shelf. A boom box appeared with CDs. Name badges were laid out on the sign in table. Early next morning, flowers were placed on tables, food was delivered and balloons were tied to the railings. Voilà!

Just as the pumpkin in Cinderella was changed into a coach fit for a princess, a room full of books and stacks was transformed into a lovely impeccably restored function room from the gold leaf on the ceiling to the reconditioned woodwork and tastefully painted walls.

On Thursday morning more than 60 people at the New Members Breakfast, sponsored by Julie Horvath of Century 21 Adams, saw first-hand how the Robbins Library Reading Room can look when you rent it for a birthday party, a cocktail party (capacity: approximately 90 people), a seated-meal (capacity: approximately 50 people), a business event. Attendees enjoyed a Continental breakfast that featured mini muffins and coffee from Sweet Sue’s Bakery & Café and fresh fruit from Edible Arrangements. Deb Cody Floral Designs of Arlington generously donated all of the flower arrangements.
