Who would have thunk it? Our first after-hours event of 2008 drew 60 people from: AFD Theatre, American Alarm & Communications, Inc., Arlington Acupuncture Wellness, The Arlington Shopper, The Basket Jeanie, Cambridge Savings Bank, Card Concierge, Century 21 Adams, Comcast Business Services, Edible Arrangements, Edward Jones, Eliot Community Human Services, Fitness Together-Arlington, Gormley Chiropractic, Health Savings, ImprovAndy, Jacki Sorensen Aerobic Dancing, Krazy Karry's, Law Office of David W. Adams, LDG Associates, Leader Bank, Mark Allen Electric, Market America, Mirak Automotive, Murray Muscular Therapy Associates, Nourish to Flourish, Nurturing Spaces, Precision Copiers, Print Aspects, Reflection Films, Ryan's Florist, Scully Group Websites, Sign*A*Rama, Take Charge Personal Fitness, Walden Web Works and Watertown Savings Bank.
Throughout the event, people sampled a wide variety of pizzas provided by Za, a nice selection of wine and beer provided by Giles Fine Wine and other festive beverages and desserts from Johnny’s Foodmaster, while Ryan’s Florist donated a beautiful arrangement (all Chamber members, by the way!)
I don’t know exactly why last night was such a popular event. Was it the evite I sent from Constant Contact? Was it the trivia contest icebreaker? Was it the chance to win prizes? Was it the PowerPoint promotion of attendees’ companies (logo, tagline and URL) that ran in a continuous loop on every available monitor and wide screen television? Or was it that people were eager to network during a very cold winter? For any or all reasons, the room was abuzz with a positive buzz. We could have powered one of the computers with all of that energy!.
At the end of the evening, we talked what great fun it was to promote attendees on a wide screen. They were thrilled to see their company names flash onto the screens. Many even used the slides to answer the trivia questions. In for a penny, in for a pound, I asked Craig whether we could do that at every after-hours event. “Why not?” was his reply.
Another Chamber Connection in action: Going forward The Computer Cafe will power the Chamber promo with a laptop and the screen for local after-hours events. We’ll just need to find a plug and a place to put the screen!
Wednesday evening we made this feature available to anyone who pre-registered. From now on this will be an exclusive benefit for Chamber members only. Each Arlington Chamber after-hours event’s PowerPoint Promo will include slides for members who have pre-registered. [Once the Chamber has created your promo slide, we will keep it to use for any future event you attend.]
The winners of last night’s trivia contest included: Ann Murray of Murray Muscular Therapy Associates won a $25 Shop Arlington First gift certificate (Shop Arlington First donation) Janice vonFettweiss of Community Newspaper Company (Comcast Business Service’s web cam donation), Angela Pesiridis of Cambridge Savings Bank (Edible Arrangements Gift Basket), John Archer of Precision Copiers (2007 World Series official baseball from the Chamber) and Lew Cutler of Sign*A*Rama ($25 gift card from the Computer Cafe). So how would you have scored on this trivia contest? How would you have done on the trivia contest yourself?
Are you ready to see some photos taken by our ace cameraman, Justin Heath?

The Computer Cafe will help us do this for every event!
