A needle, a poem, two togas, the Beatles, a stone carving and more in 60 Minutes

One person's take on Show n' Sell
“I wanted to let you know how much I liked your “Show and Sell” event,” wrote Pam Nourse of Germaine Lawrence. I learned a lot there, and have some ideas of businesses/services I think we could use at GL. In addition, I already enlisted Charles from Body Mind Systems to come and give martial arts classes to the girls, and we are talking with Nicole from the Advocate about tutoring here. The morning was quite a success for us. . .it was the right number of people and right length of presentation. Any more presentations might have sent my mind might into overload. Any shorter presentations and I wouldn’t have gotten as good an understanding of who was there."

Look who showed up at Show n' Sell
AFD Theatre, An Apple a Day Acupuncture, Arlington Chamber, Arlington Chamber, Body Mind Systems, The Book Rack, Card Concierge Corp, The Children’s Room, Clearly Creative LLC, Comcast Business Class, Go Team Coaching, Edible Arrangements, Famboogle, Gormley Chiropractic, Homeplay, Leader Bank, Line & Stone, Regent Theatre, The, Robbins Library, Robbins Library, Robbins Library, Schools for Children and VNCH all took the stage for 2-minutes. Thanks to Robbins Library, many of them took advantage of their WIFI connection and giant screen to take us to their respective websites, while others used Powerpoint to get their message across. Still others passed out marketing materials. At the end of this post, you'll find lots of photos to enjoy!

60 Minutes: Some highlights from the Chamber's version
It was a bit like 60 Minutes except instead of a ticking clock it was a beeping kitchen timer. Thérèse Marie Festa of Comcast Business Class was the morning’s sponsor and she led off the presentations. As sponsor, she was the only one who escaped the kitchen timer! Everyone was good natured about being cut off in mid sentence to make room for the next presenter.

You missed Pat Burkhart of An Apple a Day Acutpuncture taking a tiny red tipped needle and sticking it into the top of her head, where she left it for the entire event. No ouches, no wincing as she sailed though her presentation.

Leader Bank’s Kathleen Darcy was a tough to follow. In rhyming verse, she shared just all of the services she can provide for small business owners.

Maryellen Loud and Nancy Gentile of Robbins Library wore laurel wreaths and togas, in honor of democracy and the public libraries we can enjoy because of it, as they gave us all a tour of the resources available to everyone via the Internet.

Kevin Duffy from Line & Stone shared his passion for stonecutting. During his 2-minutes, he showed us a magnificent large stone face that he had sculpted, along with smaller pieces of work.

Emily Page of Go Team Coaching demonstrated the kind of energy work she has begun to use in her practice.

Nicole Laskowski and Andy Metzger gave everyone a tour of the new feature, Wicked Local People, on the Arlington Advocate’s website, as a way for businesses to promote themselves.

Until the end of next month, when new member David Gowel from Clearly Creative leaves active duty, he spends his days at MIT involved in the ROTC program which is why he showed up in his Army Ranger uniform.

Armen Meguerditchian of Homeplay gave us a remote tour of his mother's home to demonstrate the kind of security system one can install. We even got to see her walk from one room to another!

I did something uncharacteristic of me for the Chamber’s 2-minutes. No talking! I let the Beatles take over and as they sang Please Please Me the Powerpoint I prepared played out.

There was enough time at the end of the meeting for everyone to make their own Chamber Connections. We definitely will do this again in the fall!

No picture of me. I let the Beatles sing my piece in "Please, Please Me"
which accompanied a 1:56 slide show.
